Jabberwoky Glitter |
We are joining the Cat On My Head blog for Sunday Selfies
again this week. Sorry we’re so late today. We’ve been dealing with another
health issue in the family. “Glamor Glitter,” er, Jabberwoky Glitter has
decided she doesn’t want to eat very much anymore and is losing weight as a consequence.
She’s been suffering from kidney disease, hyperthyroidism,
hypertension and worsening blindness. Did you know that these three conditions can
be interrelated? In fact, hyperthyroidism can mask kidney function tests if not
controlled.
This just emphasizes the need to have “senior panels” run on
your cat on a regular basis. That usually means a complete blood count (CBC), a
chemistry panel (organ function), and a TT4 level (thyroid).
Today we started applying Mirataz®, a transdermal appetite
stimulant to Glitter’s ear and hope that we see a difference tomorrow or the
next day. Luckily she is still eating some so I hope this gets her back to her
regular level of eating.
Here’s Glitter’s selfie for this week. For some reason she
always cocks her ears to the side whenever we try to get a photo of her.
Here's my selfie, aren't I glamorous? |
Do you have a cat suffering from one of these ailments? If
so, what do you do for them?
WE hopes those meds do their job soon. What a lovely selfie, and definitely a glamour cat pose.
ReplyDeleteLots of purrs

Thanks for your thoughts.
DeleteAwww, sorry that there is sickness going on at your den. Pipo was on that same med for his inappetence, but we had to go back to the pills, cause he had a skin reaction. Sheesh. At least he is easy to pill. Other than possible lymphoma, his labs are fine, thankfully, as he is almost 15. He eats pretty good now, and has gained back some weight to an acceptable level. (From 12lbs down to a bit over seven to now about 10.)
ReplyDeleteThose troubles can be interrelated in humans too...go figure.
Oh, I'm so sorry about the possible lymphoma. I hope it isn't so. Good thing his weight has gone up again.
DeleteHealing purrs for Glamor Glitter. We feed Socks a prescription cat food for Hyperthyroidism, but with Glamor Glitter's multiple issues it might not work. You would have to ask your vet.
ReplyDeleteYes, we considered that diet but she's on a kidney diet so I didn't want to change. She's getting her pills instead.
DeleteGlitter is a beauty. I know all too well that those conditions are related. I hope the Mirataz helps. It is so much better than the pill version which makes cats act strange. Do you do fluids at home? We are giving Prancie fluids twice a day. I wil add Glitter to my prayer list. XO
ReplyDeleteThanks so much on Glitter's account. Yes, I've had cats with very bad reactions to the pill version and refused to use it. I was skeptical when the transdermal came out but it works well. Glitter is also getting fluids once daily for now.
DeletePurrayers and POTP for Glitter to get some help from the meds.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I think she will.
DeleteShe is a lovely little tortie. We hope she starts eating soon.
ReplyDeleteAww...you're so cute, Glamor Glitter. Sorry you have all these health issues. Healing Pawkisses to feel better soon and purrayers that you eat again🐾😽💞
ReplyDeleteI hope your meds work Glitter. Old kitties can be a handful but are still so much loved aren't they?
